YOUNG WIDOW AND WIDOWERS CLUB

Is there anyone my age who has lost a spouse or partner?

Short answer: Yes. You are not alone. But you may have found that you want a spousal support group, and most of the people there had been married to their loved one for something like fifty years. That’s a big difference from being in your twenties or thirties, maybe with your partner for a long time, but, simply put, in a different phase of life.

The loss is deep and meaningful, painful and disorienting, and with this loss come issues that pertain to where you find yourself in the world and on your timeline.

Talking with others like you who get it, who understand, can feel normalizing and validating. It can feel like being seen.

The Young Widows & Widowers Club is for women, men and non-binary folk who have lost a spouse or partner. It is an online group for California residents that will meet weekly. Participants will have a place to go to process what it feels like to be young and widowed, how to feel their feelings, and how to keep living alongside the depth of the loss.

In the group, topics include:

  • The emotional impact of your loss

  • How you are experiencing grief

  • How your role has changed

  • How your identity is affected

  • What “the future” meant and now means

  • How to navigate other people (your family, your partner’s family, friends, co-workers)

  • How family building is affected

  • What romance now means/what you’re ready for and what you’re not ready for

  • Financial impacts

  • Healing

This group is a contained, supportive space for widows and widowers (ages 20 to 40) to feel understood. Being young and widowed can feel like you’re the only one. Here, you’re not. And in relating to others who get it, you may find the strength to keep living your life, with the loss and alongside it.
